    What methods have you found is effective when looking for private investors for start up companies?

    I like in person, go with people you have contact with, write up a business plan and present it to them.

    I've never tried to round up money for online ventures, yet.

    You could always float it with Credit cards....

    Well, that's interesting because the other day I saw someone asking people to donate $1 because he needed $10,000-$20,000 to start up his website.

    bootstrap it. investors very very very rarely give funding to new entrepreneurs with no track record. Million dollar ideas are a dime a dozen to them.
