    Heyy
I loved the new Star Trek, and I've been told by a few people that they think I would enjoy some of the older stuff. What order should I watch the Star Treks in? Series first then movies? Movies then certain series order? Favorites I should hit up first? This franchise is a bit overwhelming. heh

I don't know, I've never been a fan of the original series or any of the movies (except the TNG era ones). On the other hand, I've seen pretty much every episode from Next Generation, Deep Space 9, and Voyager.

I'd say definitely start with TNG, then go to Voyager or Deep Space 9. I love Voyager, but Deep Space 9 is probably the absolute best Star Trek series. Save it for last IMO.

The olders stuff is good but is going to look pretty out of date special effects wise if you have grown up on today's CGI.

Watch about maybe half of the original series from the 60s for context.

See Star Trek Movies I, II, III, IV, VI, VIII. Watch II at least twice. Skip the rest.

Watch the entire New Generation and DS9 TV Series. Skip Voyager and Enterprise.

I'd watch the series then the movies from first one then next gen series then movies, in that order. It doesn't really matter to much, apart from you have to see the borg episodes from next gen before you watch first contact.

Thanks everyone. This Star Trek culture is incredible. I started to watch the Original Series, but the episodes were like stories that could stand-alone. It was like watching a 1-hour movie, which kinda ruined any incentive I would have in going in order. Are they all like this? Just random adventures or are there series that build off of each other? like Heroes er somethin.. which I think has failed recently, but the first season was epic.

If you want to engage in Star Trek you cannot do it superficially. So, as guys here already said, start with Next Generation then with DS9. From there, I would recommend Voyager, then TOS then Enterprise, but that is my personal preference. And you shouldn't skip episodes (except in TNG where almost each episode is different adventure), since you will lose a plot line.

Most episodes of Star Trek in general are stand-alone, the only thing you'll notice is if you're in a different season and a character has left/a new one has been added. There are also a lot of plot arcs in Deep Space Nine that are important to watch in order.
