SSL, to force or not to force this is the question

If you got no links, and you just started the site, forcing https is a good option. If you can buy items from your site, SSL is good for the user to make sure it's a safe transaction. If not leave it at http or https.

you can get it from namecheap for 2$ while buying a new domain.
From my perspective, it might have some negative consequences:
1. Speed, unless you have a machine that will handle SSL on a hardware level, you speed will suck.
2. All of your links will have a 301 in front, so, some juice will be lost.
If you don't sell anything is not worth the hassle for the moment. I've put the S on my biggest website and it took a -15% hot in traffic, but the niche is special a i am the only one that uses it and might make the site more trustworthy.
Also, if you don't force the ssl, you will have a duplicate website http vs https so decide now!

Don't force it with a redirect but just make all the links in your site HTTPS. So when someone clicks around in your site they are upgraded.
Google likes to HTTPS capable sites as well.

I haven't noticed any difference on a site i tried moving to ssl. I wouldn't force it. Maybe it would be a good idea down the road once it's ranked as users are getting more conscious about security as well, but at the moment, no need.
