does ssl Certificates have effect on seo for my affiliate site (amazon site)

To be honest although Google have come out and said that SSL certs will be having an effect I have found it to negatively effect my search rankings. I gave it a go and got SSL certificates for a handful of my sites to see what would happen, they ALL lost ranking! None of them were Ecommerce sites or affiliate sites so I don't know if it makes a difference, but I would say for now you don't need to bother.

I haven't seen any changes and I made 5 sites with ssl. They appear more trustworthy and that's it. For the moment I guess that Google gives more points to speed rather than ssl. Form my point of view, ssl is not worth it unless you are using it at a hardware level and use cdn to backup everthing which will be very costly.

I can say, from my tests, that ssl is not woth it just yet, maybe in the near future, but definitely not now.

Yes, they will increase your rankings and Google has said that. Now here's the problem: if you have an existing website with a good and healthy backlink profile and great content and you acquire SSL certificate and redirect people to the HTTPS site of your domain, you WILL lose rankings, because the loss in link juice and thereby "pagerank" with a 301 permanent redirect is greater than the gain in "pagerank". If your site is new, then you might as well get a SSL certificate to begin with to boost your rankings since you have little to no backlinks.

It will increase time on site and give you better CR, HTTPS can be sign of trusted website by visitors. It's also ranking signal but not sure how much importance google give it.

SSL is a big trap. I have only witnessed downsides for my websites (using SSL with cloudflare) I have moved back to http.
SSL is one more expense, one more concern, one more technical action. In google webmaster tools, there were no benefits at all. On the other hand, switching to https, it is always a big deal... It is so unnecessary.

For nothing that is worth it.

When you add a HTTPS site, and you use Webmaster Tools, be sure to add the https site there as well because Google sees both as different sites.

http://yoursite and https://yoursite are two DIFFERENT sites.

Also, if you don't redirect all the http to https, then you have duplicate content.
Excellent advice! When I switched my first site to HTTPS and redirected the HTTP versions to HTTPS, I went into Google Webmaster Tools a week later and saw my pages getting deindexed. I nearly panicked, and then I remembered that I never added the HTTPS version of my site to Webmaster Tools.

Google tells that ssl is a ranking factor
Practice tells that this is quite weak factor, if any.

Tops of some SERP are filled with ssl-enabled sites now. But it looks like it isn't the case that ssl cert pushed them to the top, but they were already on the top and bought the certs because Google said so and it is cheap anyway. The more SEO-centered is business model of a site, the more sites have https now.

SERP with no https: http://search.aol.com/aol/search?s_...hn=prt_main5&v_t=comsearch&q=buy+boots+online

Half and half: http://search.aol.com/aol/search?s_it=topsearchbox.search&s_chn=prt_main5&v_t=comsearch&q=car+insurance+online

upd: aol - because they have google data and it is not country-specific
