I will keep it simple and short.
SSID is what you see in your device when it search for nearby WIFI hotspots.
Many times you will see some funny or strange hotpsot names showing up like : virus, connection error, your mom etc.
Something similar i saw today from my neighbor's hotspot and just an idea came in my mind to freak him. If my device is able to find his hotspot then his device must be seeing mine.
So i changed my SSID to something like : {his name} is ugly pig . He just freaked out and came shouting on me as i left clue of me in that punch line.
That was the fun part , physical stores can also use it for profit. Just use a powerful router and antenna to transmit your hotspot SSID bit further and put a short and sweet message like : 30% off on {nearby} store. It can be twisted in many ways.
One thing may not work in your favor if mobile internet is very good at your place then peoples will not look for WIFI hotspot nearby and you may go unnoticed. But recently at my place one big telecom company created monopoly and others have gone dust . So you know what happens in this case, peoples are at mercy of one monopolist and that reduce the service quality of mobile internet so peoples try to search for free WIFI nearby as well and also ask for password from neighbors.
