Spun % in article spinners

Hey,
I have always wondered what the "spun percentage" really is about. Sure, it measures to which degree the article is spun already, but how is it calculated? Since a lot of spinners have this info, i think it must be some kind of public information, right?

The text spinner plugin in the program i'm writing uses the levenshtein distance algorithm. Wikipedia it.

Can you explain a little more?

Do you only speak for yourself or is this generally considered the way, spun percentage is calculated?

Search Engines do more rely on w-shingle as far as i know ==> http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/003398.html
