Sprint Aircard Social Security Number?

I bought a sprint aircard, only to find out they require my social/tax ID, plus a drivers license number in order to activate? Is this how it always was? Do the other carriers require this? I am baffled

yup ATT did require SSN and other details too. Infact they do a credit check

Does anyone know of a provider that does not require this?

Cricket but I know they are still limited in coverage areas
