The songs are still on Spotify but the distributor is not reporting plays or royalties.
Do you get password reset on your accounts that you stream with? That would be an indicator of Spotify notice something "strange"
I do get those at regular intervals for a large number of my accounts. But I don't think this is tied to accounts. The fact that only albums that earned over $100 in royalties in March were shadow banned in April is what I'm focusing on. I've added more songs from my catalog and threw in a few of the shadow banned releases to the playlists too. I want to see if they will report plays and royalties on those as long as I keep them under $100 per album.
I think password changes should be "avoided". If I stream 24/7 with the same accounts. I get 2 password changes and then permanently ban. If I let the accounts stream 8hours per day each no password changes. When spotify is doing their anti fraud stuff, things that they can look at is the percentage of suspicious accounts streaming, ratio between streams and listeners. We won't get an exact answer how they do it, but I think we want to to stay under the radar as much as possible.
I have reset the passwords on many of these accounts weekly for months. I'm going to test out the theory that with more songs, and fewer plays for each song, will avoid the shadow ban. I've got nearly 5,000 songs. I usually rotate them out after 6 months so I avoid getting too many plays on the songs.
That is a lot of songs! I think spotify run their anti fraud detection continuously or at least per month, so if they detect something it will be long before 6 months. Would it be a big cost for you to have 3 times the amount of accounts so each account plays less hour per day?
Those 5,000 songs aren't connected in any way. They are not on the same playlists or accounts. There ia no way they can connect those back to one person.
It isn't very profitable for me to only stream 8 hours per day on an account.
I use songs of all sorts of lengths. They are mostly 3-7 minutes usually. Typically there are no safe numbers to stay under. For this though, it seems that $100 mark per album is what is getting them flagged and shadow banned. At $.005 per play, that means no more than 20,000 plays for an album in a month.
Thats very long songs. Just to give some input to the original question, Spotify pay royalty after 30seconds of play, but skipping the song after 30 seconds gives negative signals to the song and is suspicious behavior.
I don't play the entire song. I have had issues with multiple distributors when I try and use too short of songs. They are caught pretty easily. Especially if the music is low quality or "generic".

I'm not skipping songs. But I won't go into exactly how I'm getting my plays. Up until now, it has not been an issue. I'm talking about several years. It's time to adapt.
