Let's say I managed to reverse engineer the internal spotify api to play songs and register them in stats (recently played, spotify for artists) with a python script, would there be anyone interested or already with some knowledge on how to push this further to confirm the api streams also become eligible for royalties? Because I think they would get flagged and removed after further processing before releasing royalties. We could create a private group or smth, idk

It will most likely not work. Traffic on these sites are measured in a variety of ways and they are very happy to flag something (automatically) using their systems if it detects something amiss. There's a reason that people do this with specialized bot farms. It takes variety in traffic source, fingerprint, usage patterns, and so on.
 
i would like to know more about your api .. does it count the streams? Does it appear on Spotify for the artist? What type of accounts did you used? I have someone who can help to make it stronger regarding the detection of Spotify
 
you can't make a living out of fake streams. People get busted and huge fines regualrly now for doing these things. Fair enough if you can't think of anything actually original and useful that doesn't rip people off. Then at least come back to say it was a bunch of bs, after it fails.

(How much you ACTUALLY think spotify spends catching noob botters? )

I have reverse engineered the API in the past. PM to talk, I had a fully working solution
 
The good way to do is farm phone for streaming or use bot with multiple emulator. I did it and the cost is bit high

Agreed, Darknet Diaries also did an episode on it not too long ago and talks with a company who is doing the detection. Interesting listen if you haven't heard it.
 
The S4A display and the royalty processing are two separate systems. Streams showing up in the dashboard doesn't mean they pass the eligibility check — royalty processing runs a retrospective fraud pass at month end and that's where the scrubbing happens. Streams can look fine for weeks and get wiped before payout. API approach hits a wall specifically because account behavior analysis flags unnatural patterns regardless of how authentic the API calls look — no browsing between tracks, perfect timing, same catalogue loop. Phone farming gets closer because real devices produce real variance in behavior that's harder to model against.

I’d be careful with this approach. Even if something works short term, platforms like Spotify have pretty strong detection systems and anything artificial usually gets filtered before payouts.


If you’re testing APIs, it’s better to stick within their official limits/use cases. Otherwise you risk accounts getting flagged or banned.


Would be interesting to hear if anyone has tried legitimate API use cases at scale though

Yeah, I was thinking the same but this month I got paid out for those small amounts of API streams, the S4A and royalty report numbers matched exactly. I will be waiting for next month report to confirm larger numbers.

I don't think those anti-fraud systems are that sophisticated if you stay under the radar in terms of streams on one song per month. Additionally, you get some good portion organic traffic after a while which adds noise.

Small volumes probably just don't hit the threshold worth flagging — the economics of running fraud analysis on a few dollars don't add up for them. The organic noise mixing in helps too. The real test is what happens when you scale, that's where the pattern becomes statistically obvious regardless of how clean individual streams look. Curious what the next report shows.
