Had a search but couldn't come up with the answer.

What causes the amount of spider visits you get with Wordpress Blogs. For example, site one month old.

Last month = 5924 Spider Visit
Last 13 days = 17420 Spider Visits

Haven't seen a noticeable Jump in search engine rankings, this happen for any particular reason?

Seems a bit high to me. Unless you are updating like crazy of course.

Track the IP, check what pages they visit. Then start blocking.

I assume you have Wordfence or Better WP security installed. Makes it easy to check. I had one "spider" trying to land on my admin panel for example.

Hope this helps.

if they are real you could see an increase number of visits from the search results because now you have more indexed pages

Thanks for getting back to me, haven't been adding new content like crazy a blog post / two a day. Traffic driven via social media, generallly 1-300 visits per day.

Better WP Security installed and don't use a default 'admin' login. Checked the IP and its coming from a within the GoogleBot IP Range. So far today had over 11,000 Spiders according to SlimStats (Backed up by AWStats) Haven't had anymore pages indexed by google, confirmed via webmaster tools. Very strange.
