specs for adult site?

Got pretty good idea for new adult site, haven't seen anything like it yet, if you're running server from home, would a regular DSL line work for streaming video possibly hundred at time? (wouldn't think so) Or, hardware-wise memory and what kinda pipe ya need, definitely need gigabyte nic/router...but what else to run streaming vid...? anybody already in this field pm me like to pass idea by maybe do a joint...effort that is :D

I can answer on any question about adult webcam market from performer (model)/webmaster/studio/admin side. I just don'tknow what excatly you would like to know?:)
 
Doubt your upload speed would be sufficient enough for a video site ;)

You need to have a multi-core server with some good RAM and enough HD space for the vids, also make sure you got good bandwidth with the server as not to incur charges, best to get a dedicated server as well. Speak to the server people, they usually do deals, I got 100TB bandwidth for next to nothing.
 
You also have the problem with redundancy running a home server, datacenters have multiple backbones so if one fails the server farm isn't lost to the net. Then you have the need for backup power sources.

A home server is good for either a basic static site that is not a money maker, such as a mom and pops business brochure, or building your own sites on before you take them live to a proper server.
 
yeah, I have a G3 HP proliant dual x 2.8Ghz with 15rpm drives... but I think my bottle neck is the standard DSL pipe... could get it bumped up I suppose. CareTaker...good points though probably not worth effort to do so and not redundant. Seems like HostGator would be decent provider, are host'ers biased any against adult.. I wouldn't think so, but? Plus, if hosted on own server this would bog down my other sites... maybe I'll through it up, get it tuned and go with hosting service then.
 
yea a home server on dsl defiantly would not get the job done for you.

there is a great dedicated host in canda i have used before.

esecuredata they have no problem with adult content as long as its legal.

also there servers are great for the price.

dual core 2gb ram 500gb hdd for 79/m

or core 2 duo 4gb ram and (2) 500gb hdd's for 149/m

these would defiantly be great for you.
 
jeo forget about running it from your house, you need to look into colocation for that server and i would suggest getting a gige uplink (maybe multiple, depending on the user counts) from the datacenter, for this amount of bandwidth id be likely to suggest fdcservers.net and see what deals they will do for you, work out your per stream video bitrate (normally 200-500kbit per user) and then multiply that by the number of users you want to run sustained and peak to get some idea of the uplink you will require, also, dont run your connect at more than 30% capacity for a site like this, you need room to burst when an influx of traffic happens for no apparent reason! oh and that server will probably need minimum 8 or 16gig of ram and a good admin to set it up to handle porn grade hosting
 
Yeah, I was pretty I wouldn't be able to do so from home... thanks for all replies from everyone, Question though, what if I just used my site at home as a front end showing only pics which when clicked links to a hosted site and plays videos. Maybe I can team with another site and just link back to all their vids, maybe I get % of sign ups...do adult porn sites even have affiliate programs? I never paid attention I just like to watch...lol So what's a shortcut way to be a front end and utilizing someone's vids by linking, Maybe pull up the video player in frame in center my home site to disguise, that would work pretty well I would think, could always throw up a line saying vid brought by so&so so webmaster doesn't get po'ed. Is the money made with adult sites from pervers, like myself :), signing up? Or, is it mostly by ads then? I can't believe people actually sign up for these there's so much free stuff out there.

You would still have the problem that if you lost your DSL for any reason you would be dead in the water. You may be trying to save money, and it *could* work, but the risk factor is just too high.

Jeo if you're going to play dirty with adult webmasters and steal content, you're going to get into heaps of trouble, I promise you. These people dont fool around.

If you're in the US, one quick way to get you in trouble and ensure they don't have to deal with your particular kind of scum again is to lodge a child porn complaint against your site. The FBI will come down on you like a ton of bricks and close you down faster than you can say 'robinson cruzo' :( The specific regulation you will be nailed by is 18 USC 2257, you need to find out about that and all other applicable laws anyways before you even consider starting an adult website.

My advice -- dont try.

As to your question, yes, many adult sites have excellent affiliate programs. They nearly all use CCbill, which is the adult CJ.com.
