Specific Keyword Ranking Help

Hello all,

I work for a marketing agency in the United Kingdom and my boss is demanding that I get a first page ranking for the keyword "collets" for the collets category page on one of our customer's ecommerce websites.

So far I've written about 500 good quality words on collets which I've put on the category page, as well as alt text for the images and headers, title tag etc.

But it seems to get barely any traction, not even ranking on page 7, 8 etc.

Any advice? I look at the SERP for collets and competitors seem to have barely any content and still rank, which I assume is due to domain authorty/domain age etc.

Preferably short-term solutions/on-page/actionable tips

I mean your website url via pm. I will check and let you know what is the issue and how you can optimize to rank it better. Can also check it for free on the offsite SEO part and give you more details.
 
Study the top 10 - content, optimisation, backlinks to page, backlinks to domain, age, social signals etc.

That should give you a better understanding of what you’re up against.

Also look at the search volume, cpc and that should give you an idea of the potential return - that will give you ammunition for your boss - ie if it’s a lucrative keyword then they need to be patient.

Also, look for longtails as well because that might be a better place to focus on in the beginning.

Explain also to your boss that if you rush things you risk ranking for a few days / weeks, then getting permanently penalised or blacklisted by google.

Above is the results for the top non Wikipedia result, according to the free version of the Moz Link Explorer, so you need banging content and sick on page SEO and probably quite a few spicy links with some authority behind them, but then you cant have all your links pointing to a category as that is bait af.

I suggest either telling your boss that it isnt possible without some budget put behind it, as you cant just throw links at a category page and expect results, and that the only way you could do it is with time and/or an extra zero added to the end of your salary.

All well and good just saying "backlinks", but how the f*** am I meant to just go out there and get hundreds of ******** links?
 
Buy pbn links off the marketplace or try some of the freely available methods on this site .

The easiest way honestly is with a bunch of web 2.0 properties configure if this then that so your rssfeed goes to each web 2.0 property, and send backlinks to your money site, now if you want to start getting a little bit more advance buy some domains with good profile backlink and make a 301 redirection, a little bit more advanced and more investment buy some domains with good backlink profile, re create them and send contextual backlinks to your money site controlling the anchor text

This probably sounds like sarcasm now, but thank you for not posting a bull**** answer that typical SEOs give. "Just do some outreach! Email 1 million sites for 3 backlinks, 2 of which are nofollow!"

How do you mean "make a 301 redirection"? From where to where? What benefit does this serve?
 
cutwel.co.uk has 2000 backlinks of which most come from forums and ranks number 6 for that keyword. I'd say that that's one indication that you don't need much to rank.

I just checked this on SEMrush though, so it might not be/will not be super accurate like data from Ahrefs.

Maybe you can give yourself an excuse to write more about collets by giving real life use examples from companies. Gives you more space to spam some more internal links aka "collets collets collets collets collets", lol.

Lmao isn't that an indication that I'd need at least 2000 backlinks to rank above/equal to Cutwel!?

The client I work with is incredibly non-communicative when it comes to getting information from them. Blood from a stone etc, but using real-world examples is a good idea.
