I'm seeing a bunch of spammy high pr blogs that are still keeping pr 3-4-5 ranks with terribly spun content.

I thought google was smart enough now to deindex these? Is it worth getting links tier 1 from them? My opinion is no, but PR is PR right?

I check these with open explorer to make sure there no 301 redirects

High PR backlinks from pages with too many external backlinks won't benefit you. The more external backlinks, the less PR 'juice' (as Matt Cutts refers to it as) is flown to said links. If say, the page doesn't have a lot of comments, and is just really poorly spun... you can chance it and get the backlink from it, however you risk having a 'bad neighborhood' backlink if said blog is ever manually reviewed.

Idk. I try not to bother with those types of backlinks. There isn't enough long-term benefit.

Thanks - I just assumed really spammy content nowadays could be picked up by algorithms.

Yeah I don't understand why people would spend all that money on expired domains and hosting, only to take a gigantic shortcut that will render their entire network useless sometime down the line. I'm all about a private network, but I create at least semi-quality blogs that by all appearances are legitimate (besides the random drug testing links :p)

That isn't what he asked at all... did you even bother reading his question?
