Spamming Help?

Hi Guys,

Is it at all possible to trace the perpetrator of someone spamming a website? or gather enough evidence to associate an individual to show that it is a specific person carrying out this spamming?

Basically i have a website that generates leads.

I have a competitor who has been hit by a lot of spamming.

They are blaming me. I would like to provide them evidence that it's not me, just not sure if it is possible or where to start.

They have said that they have traced some IP addresses to a 5 mile radius of my office ( i live in London!) and also some links are hidden behind a Chinese IP address.

If there is anyway i can investigate these spammy links that have been created and prove that it's not me it would be great if you guys could let me know where to start.

I afraid there's nothing you can do to track down the spammer. Those spam blasts are typically done behind proxies and if there's nothing illegal involved then you can only guess who is the spammer.

Don't waste your time on that, if you didn't do it, they can't prove it.

Try to find out if there are any keywords that they are ranking for where everyone in the top 10 have been hit. Quite hard to do but may be possible for a local business if that is the keyword as they may know competitors.

Other than that just try and explain that it isn't you because you have not gained anything from it. Say if it was you, you would have hit the rest of the sites ranking above you and not just one.

It is quite hard to trace the people that do this and most are just idiots that don't even get a benefit from it. They just ruin peoples sites because they get frustrated of being useless at SEO.

Basically i have had a site that was blasted with links in Feb and i have deleted the site.

My competitor uses 2 seo guys that are basically feeding him with info that it's me, yet these 2 guys are very capable or know people who can do this to any site. So its a viscious circle and so annoying when i cant prove that it's not me.

I'm now concerned that he gets his 2 guys to start spamming my site in response. That's why i was hoping i could provide evidence that its not me. We are all in the same business and there is plenty of room for all of us on the first page. I just think they are trying to put all the blame on me to get him to ruin my sites.

I don't think it's a problem, you can use google disavow tool.
and if he does spam your site and you're sure it's him, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't do the same, or even more.

Think I'm just worried after my last site was ruined. Your right though, since i can disavow them and i have only 220 links at the minute so i would definitely spot any spam.

the seo guys are feeding him some bs to get paid more money...you happen to be the target. only thought is tell your competitor they are full of bs and suggest finding another seo guy to take a second look maybe...or hope the seo guys suck and cant affect anything anyways
