SPAM websites ranking?

Has anyone encountered a hacked website which has a page secretly added? Hacker proceeds to spam thousands of links a day over the last few months.

This is site is doing really well in the serps though anchor text is completely unrelated.

Can someone shed some light on this?

There was a really good thread about a ballet website ranking #1 or viagra a few months ago. It was hacked. Maybe try searching for it.

I don't think anyone will share any of those sites with you, but I've seen it happening in the SERPs. They are like pages on parasite sites, except that the authors/hackers gained back door access to publish them.

Unrelated anchor text can rank pages, didn't you know? Ever since the penguin updates started, anchor text has lost most of it's relevance in the algorithm. The most important quality of a backlink now is it's trust and authority. Anchor text used to be one of those qualities.

Yea this is pretty new to me as I've never seen it before. I'm noticing it happens in very competitive niches. Pages ranking in serps redirects to other pages.

I did analyse some of the back-links to these hacked pages. They all started around March of this year.

Hacked parasites hosting is as old as seo. The question is not whether these spam websites rank, the question is how long do these spam websites rank. If you keep an eye on serps, you will see they drop like flies and are constantly replaced. Sometimes by the same marketer, sometimes by others.

Hi Nick, so am I right to say that these sites which got hacked will rank for the short term just cause of the sheer amount of links built to them?
