Spam Update Recovery

Hello,

One of my websites got hit with the spam update on Oct.19. I was ranking alright but it tanked completely on every keyword I ranked in. I don't really use A.I. or anything like that but I suppose I do have a lot of section topics that may be considered low quality due to them have duplicate wording besides keywords.

The only weird thing is that all my competitors are doing the exact same thing but only a couple of people got hit with the spam update, the ones with enough authority (while being lower quality sites) completely avoided being hit by it.

Is there a chance of recovery at all? I fluctuate ranks quite a bit now but something is causing google to shoot my rank back to nothing if it makes it within 100 for some keywords.

I know everyone is in the dark, but what is everyone's theory in recovering from this? I do believe a website becomes flagged in their algo if it got hit or something along those lines, but maybe I'm wrong.

(I do believe it's possible to recover; making a new website because of this seems pretty unwise to me)

Any information or insight would be helpful, let me know how you all feel about it.

this algo update was really hit and miss. nobody can tell for sure if there is any pattern at all.
as for recovery, people have their own theories.

i know it's hard to start from scratch when you don't know what you did wrong to get hit so i would suggest you let this site sit for 2-3 months and see if it recovers, while you work on another project.

If you know for sure you have some thin content type of articles, maybe try to improve them if you can (i don't know how big your site is).

It's just my take. Everyone has his own comfort level. I also had a site that got hit.
Just gotta build better and bigger is my philosophy .

I was going to write the same thing, great advice here
Worse case scenario - you got a new site that will make you $$$, best case scenario - your old site recovers and now you got 2 sites making you $$$

I have DA 16 but avoided the bullet, most says this update is related to contents and not the backlinks
