Theoretically, yes. However, if you're not building spammy links, you should stay the course you're on.

You should always be aware of your backlink profile even if you're entirely white hat & allowing them to be built naturally.

At this current point in time, I feel it's a useless metric.

Google does not consider Spam scores, so need to worry about it. If you want to decrease your spam score then remove the links which you brought recently. And also make sure, anything under 20 spam score blogs will be good to buy for backlinks.
 
Have you bought any links fro the past few weeks? Check those links whether it's spammy, just disavow it. otherwise it affects your ranking
 
Build some quality backlinks from authority sites. No need to worry too much about spam score.
 
Mostly this happens when you get some bad quality links , just remove them and improve content would really help !
