Spam comments on your site - do you approve them?

Some spam comments I get look otherwise harmless enough, and actually look pretty good as far as social proof. Do you approve them, or will that open the floodgates of spammy comments, which would be duplicate content to boot as other websites have the same comments?

I think I know the answer to this one, but wanted to run it by some of you BHWers.

If you're running default wordpress comments, I think there's a way you can delete out the URL/email address of the commenter. That said, there's an easier way...search the BST section for a plugin made by one of the jr exec vips over here that allows you to create and schedule comments on your posts.
 
I never approve other comments. I comment myself on all post and approve them.
 
I just quick edit them sometimes
They do the work, I delete their urls
If something looks crappy, I either edit or delete
Self commenting happens at times
Reddit did it too so why not
 
Those same comments are posted all over the web. Don't approve them unless you want duplicate content on your site.
 
i rather self comment and approve than approve a spam one
 
If you have any comments which are relevant to your site, it will create and add keywords in the article.

But if it is not relevant, it's dangerous, you should delete it.

Keep live link out of your site
 
If the comments from real user with original content, I ll allow and reply to their comments. It makes my blog more user interactive.
If the comments are from bot with spun content, I ll delete..
 
Real users yes but spam comments no, you should remove those default footprints...

1. edit them 2. remove URL's 3. approve them ! 4. if they look too spammy just give them a kick in their asses and don't approve them !
 
Like above, if it's relevant it might be ok to apporve. But if to spammy get rid of Em
 
no never, i comment my self, using my three different mobile connection hence differentiating IPs.
 
If you want duplicate comments and want to give free backlinks...
 
definitely no no for spam comments. but relevant comments should be alright, without having their links on the comments

This is what I used to do back when I allowed comments on all of my sites. The comments that just appeared to be compliments with spammy URLs were the best to use. :)
 
You can use email them to build an email list using your email auto.
And start promoting your products or affiliate links

Of course, that's always the best policy as you want comments from real users, that is people who regularly read your blog and have something useful to say. It's the bots that make it difficult to have an open comment system (without moderation) as those will just junk up your comment queue in no time.
