Hey guys I got a question... I've gotten a few hits for almost exactly the same number of hits from a UserAgent Java/{Some version}... my research tells me this is most likely a spam bot, so what course of action should I take here? My thought was to just place some sneaky ass redirects to my link exchanges and get hits that way ;-) but I'd like to hear what you guys have to think about this. I attached an image of the database I use to manage hits, where they come from, and what they're up to. It shows exactly what I'm talking about. So let me know what you guys would do here.

maybe some articles grabber :)

just use latest .htaccess spam bots block list :)

I just said fuck it and auto-block each ip coming in with a Java/1.x.x UserAgent. Not worth my time.

I'm pretty sure your solution is spot on in this case, but I'd be careful blocking entire UserAgents.

I usually wouldn't block an entire UserAgent, but these in particular had exactly the same patterns so they've been blocked :)
