I actually haven't done this myself, but helped friend do it and it worked pretty well for him (around 10 customers a day).

He was trying to order Salvia online one day, where he came across an affiliate program that sold "tobacco" pipes and other whatnot. He set up one of the worst websites I've ever seen (his host eventually banned him for content about illegal substances) which was basically a thumbnail view of products with a 10ish word description and when you clicked on one it would bring you to the order form. He even used a co.cc domain.

We skated around town for a few days and just stuck a bunch of bumper stickers with pictures of interesting paraphernalia and his URL at the bottom to street signs, toilet stalls, mailboxes, bus stops, and other places like that. Figured he could just say something like "Our products come with a free sticker, it isn't our problem what our customers do with them" if they ever tried to contact his "company".

Got around 10 customers a day before he got shut down by his web host. Most of the stickers we put up are still there, too.

:) nice... but this depends on the country where you live because if you live in a poor country you will not get 10 sales per day:P

I am sure that works. Alot of times when I see stickers on signs or whatnot I check them out online...

How much did he make with 10 customers per day? Why not set up another site with a another host if this was working for him?

With a good-looking site and a better setup this could be a good idea.

With a crappy website and 10 customers a day sounds like it was a good idea anyway.

Will he be trying this again with different hosting?

Take that to the next level and put out bandit signs on a friday evening after code enforcement has gone home for the weekend and watch your site get serious traffic.

I use http://thesignbandits.com for this and it does work for my stuff which is all business to business related as well as when I want to flip a house.

Great stuff, was actually thinking about doing something similar.

Wow I had no idea this thread was actually recieving attention.

No I haven't tried it again, but thought about it many times. I don't have a car and its winter time here in CT so it kind of sucks to get around when its 20 degrees and snowing. Plus there aren't alot of people out on the streets.

If I do decide to do it again, I'll start it a little before summertime arives (march-ish) and actually buy a domain this time, rather than having a co.cc. Its really not that hard to do, and totally worth the time as your not sitting at a computer all day and can go and do what you want to do.

I had one guy ask me what I was doing, slapping bumper stickers to random things. Felt kinda good to say "I'm working". If you live in at least a semi-populated area in the US (suberb is the term?), it is totally worth doing yourself or with some friends. Skate/Bike/Walk around, get a burger, get baked (if thats your thing), vandalize something, and turn it into a productive day. It's something you shouldn't need to outsource, unless you're in a place like India.

EDIT: This would make the best eBook ever! "Deliquent's Guide to Making Money Online".
