I know this isnt a help forum, but its so active, i cant "help" but ask for "help"

I bought an asus u50f laptop, been trying all day to burn a music cd-r

but no matter what program I use, it pops open the cd drive and says please insert a blank cd, but they are brand new blank cds. :whistling:

it can read burned ones just fine, including dvd's, even blank dvd's
I googled and uninstalled all drivers re-installed them, updated everything.

I finally realized, perhaps it cant burn cds? :uhoh:

this is the specs of the drive
    DVD±RW (±R DL)

so what does that mean actually?

I googled it and have no idea. :banghead:

can someone plz doumb this down for me.

    Thanks in advanced

also the DVD drive is listed as (E) and there is another drive listed as G named (BD_ROM Drive G)
what the heck is that for?

plus there is two drivers listed in the device manager under
    dvd/cd rom drivers

    From What i can tell

    DVD±RW (±R DL)

    DVD mean Digital Video Disc
    RW mean Re-Writable
    DL means Dual Layer

i am a certified A+ professional, did it 5 years ago, if i remember correctly they need a special DVD R DL Dics on which you can burn data or movies etc, because they have dual layer which provide them double storage size and high capacity generally 8.5 Gb or something.

Just see the disc which you are using for burning have something "DVD R DL" written on it, if no go to market and see if you find it, Most Companies likes Sony and HP have them.

also try to use more than one program to burn dvds Like Nero Burning, Cyber Link etc

    Here are few:

Thanks for the replies, it reads blank dvd's just fine.

Its just when I try to burn a blank CD-R it says "plz insert a blank one" even though there is a blank one in it already.
Some CD burning software wont even open, it says failed to load drivers"
other will let me set up the files, but when I click burn, the CD drive pops open and I get the error to insert a blank one, they are brand new blanks.

I just dont know if it can burn CD-R or not, it can read ones that are already burnt though.

perhaps it can read dvd and cd but only burn dvd?

or am I missing a driver?

I cant seem to figure that part out.

Plus as you can tell from the link, the specs brag about the DVD but never says a thing about the CD.
