I wonder what uproar there will be IF this gets passed. Time for a change perhaps?

SOPA and PIPA goes against the First Amendment. Some lawyers are going to take this to the court and then it will be another 2 years before it is passed.

I hope that they delay it for as long as they can. This may be the first time I will be happy that the justice system is slow....very slow.

Like I've said elsewhere, they backpedal on the controversial bill, in order to re-introduce it once they think the resistance has dissipated. Our answer must be to not dissipate, and start voting out politicians who would do this to us. Or get a counter-law passed that bars the federal government from restricting internet linking or having other broad censorship powers.

The English version of Wikipedia is blacked out for 24 hours (right now), and aol, facebook, google and some others say they will do the same thing in protest of this legislation. I heard that the politicians are already trying to figure out how to revise it. The government ruins everything they touch, because of ulterior motives, and if there isn't anything in it for them, they don't touch it. There's ALWAYS a Lobbyist behind their moronic legislation.

If anything like SOPA ever got anywhere close to passing, there'd be so much uproar you wouldn't be able to hear yourself typing. In short, just don't worry about it and concentrate on making money.

Exactly. They water it down a bit and everyone in congress will pas the bill they deem not as controversial, even though it is the exact same. They do it all the time.

The thing about this one is there are very powerful players on both sides of the coin so this is a major war. It's not media giants vs the people, it is media giants vs internet giants.

I don't understand. We should just give it time to what? Give it time to pass and only then start fighting to repeal it?

How is SOPA not dead if the president isn't going to let it pass?

What people are fighting against is censorship, not anti-piracy. I haven't heard/read about anyone be pro-piracy (outside of the darknet obviously).

What I mean to say is that SOPA itself is not going to pass. Maybe PIPA or another, more narrow incarnation of SOPA that doesn't infringe on freedom of speech outside of copyright laws.

This is exactly right. We must remain vigilant. Even if SOPA, PIPA and OPEN all get crushed, I can guarantee they will return as different permutations or additions to other acts while trying to be passed under the cover of darkness.

    Just look at the NDAA.
