The latest attempt by Congress to try to regulate and control the Internet is no longer known as SOPA but CISPA: the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act. The SOPA-like bill would give companies the power to collect information on their subscribers and hand it over to the government and all they have to do is request it. Kendall Burman, senior national security fellow for the Center for Democracy and Technology, joins Liz Wahl to talk about what this means for online freedoms.

BUMP. This is a more insidious version of the internet censorship/control bills, in that it will use its vague language about "cyber security" to shut down speech, sites, or even emails it views as a 'threat.' If Big Inc. doesn't like your communication about torrents, it can complain about it as a 'threat' (to its corporate monopoly on distribution) and get ISPs, websites and the like to shut down your file sharing, message board discussions about it, et al.

Nothing new until the Internet protests...yet again.

It went from "something" => COICA => SOPA / PIPA => CISPA ......These guys just don't stop and you can guess who's behind all this.

We knew the second SOPA went down that they'd keep trying. They are counting on the social backlash to die out more and more with each effort. And it won't stop with CISPA or whatever the one they eventually get through will be. It's downhill from there.

Best hope is to keep making noise with each effort. And we can't just rely on sites like Reddit. There needs to be more professional lobbying on our side, right now there's just a scattering of orgs that lobby for internet freedom.

Indeed, there needs to be a counter bill passed that permanently PROTECTS the Internet from attempts to censor it or remove user privacy without due process. Get a civil liberties and net privacy group to draft a clean bill, that stays clean (not one that is amended with a canyon wide loophole to say "your freedom is protected, unless of course NSA has 'security' concerns about you"). Once passed, then we're fighting to keep a good law from being changed, instead of trying to stop one bad law after another from being passed. Better position.

This is just insane, I'm just happy that what ever name they keep trying to pass the bill under keeps getting out.

Wow that is crazy. Here go again with CISPA this time and the vid really touches base on what could possibly happen. Its obvious that they put vague shit in there for a reason to control everything they "feel" is a threat and not going after real threats...if they are any online. They can narrow it down to specifics but being that broad in terms lets everyone know its just another BS bill for control but as stated they wont stop until they get what they want and we have to keep fighting for our rights as long as the internet is around.

Most of the hardcore anonymous people would rather ddos a site, then raise money to start a lobbying group. That is where the problem lays.

OFC they will, they mainly aim their big gun at "piracy". They all get ripped off and they want the power. If Americans are dumb enough not to fight this, they will end up declaring how thick is their daily shitmark, unless they want to go to jail.

    Democracy AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Even if this one fails, they will not stop trying... I think that they are a bunch of no lifers because im pretty sure there are more important issues that they can be focusing on instead something as little as this.

They are taking away our human right to exchange ideas/views... They are not just censoring pirated content... they are censoring our imagination!
Do you realize what is at stake here? How big this is, not just for USofA but for the rest of the world too? One country censors, another one jumps with it.
