If he gets sent to Afghanistan, really watch out for his mental health. That war will at least last until 2014. Statistically, he probably won't get killed, but it's much more likely he'll deal with PTSD. Suicides are at an all time high over there, and when they get back, it can be a real shit show. And they usually don't ask for help. Hopefully you've fostered good mental stability in raising him.

I really hope they get taken care of after they're done serving, instead of just swept under the rug like garbage
 
Good for him. It's a mighty grown up decision he's made at his age and he's got my respect. I might not agree with everything our totally transparent government has done in the past but I have nothing but the greatest respect for the ones that wear the uniform.

Exactly who's ass do we need to kick? This entire war is a scam and a business. Do they fight back? Sure, what would you do if someone invaded your country and started killing innocent people. The best thing to do is to NOT join the marines. They are brave for joining, but it is just manipulation by the government into making you think it's the right thing. Only for the sake of profit.
 
I have decided to close this thread since there are too many heated,
conflicting opinions. All the OP wanted to do was express the fact
that he was proud of his son, but some of the members saw this
as an opportunity voice their opposing political views.
