I did a sale recently and it was my friend that got the simple baby plan account. I gave him the code for first month $0.01 charges, keep in mind this was my second sale for the month (NOV).

He did it all right and once he signed up I got an email from Hostgator that I have a pending sale..was happy for it but the next day when I check my stats again, the sale was marked as "fraud". I contacted hostgator aff team and told them there is no way it was a fraud signup because my friend signed up. They told me to tell my friend to check his email...and immediately I told him to check.

He came back to me (online) after an hour suprised that hostgator was telling him to upload his license or photo ID plus a scan copy of his credit card to verify the account. WTF?! For a simple $10 monthly account, why on Earth they are asking such things?? Never encountered such thing before or heard of any.

I contacted hostgator again and they said sometimes they will check random accounts for quality check and also to avoid any frauds and my sale will be counted as a sale after my friend send them the documents. My friend got uninterested and told me he don't want to waste his time on such thing and he feel uncomfortable giving away such information. There it goes, I lost my sale ($100) and wonder in future how many more sales I will lose due to this same shit from hostgator.

Any of you guys faced the same problem?

That sucks... but your friend obviously doesnt want the website? So you were just trying to profit by signing up correct? Well Obviously their fraud detection works sometimes :)

No he wanted a hosting and approached me which hosting will be the best and easiest to deal with. I told him hostgator is the best and most widely used, and gave him my affiliate link. He signed up and wanted to host his newly bought domains. Now he is going for bluehost because he was kinda disspointed with this hostgator's shit. There is no fraud at all here, he is a genuine customer and would have used the hosting account for years.
