So I'm selling a computer on Craigslist and this guys texts me. He says he can only pay through PayPal and that I have to send the computer to Canada (while his phone number says he's from New York). Of course this is a scam. I looked it up online and it said something about how they send too much money and ask you to send the difference back through some peer to peer service. Then they somehow withdraw their original funds. Anyone know anything about this. Should I just tell him off or try and reverse scam him? I don't know how I could if I wanted to. Just wanted to bring this up.

Just pass that one...and try to sell it to someone else...i would not risk my money and account.

Probably a hacked Paypal account.. it will be charged back!

Anything you put out there could come back on you, ignore the buyer and move on.

Alright guys thanks for the info. I was leaning that way to begin with. Can't believe people fall for these kinda things....

As you wrote, you've found out that his number from New York but delivery to Canada, so I would say no to this guy and move on. But then, it might be for a gift or someone that does dropshipping or smiliar to that.
I know as a business owner we just want to make a sale, and it's hard to say no to a customer sometimes. If you decide to continue with the sale and have to refund for some reasons, refund the difference with paypal only, minus paypal cost. You don't want to knowingly facilitate money laundering by refunding through other channel.

Im positive it's a scammer. I looked it up online and a lot of people get the exact same number from craigslist asking for PayPal. But yeah, I decided I don't want to do anything illegal, even if it's from someone like this.

Glad you didn't go through with him, lots of scammers on craigslist lately. Almost everything I post I get someone from Nigeria saying hes a marine blah blah blah wire transfer blah blah

Yeah you have been given good advice here OP. Just let this sit and move on. It is best not to open up a can of worms.
