What do you do when someone steals articles on your website?

P.S. The site that stole is only getting traffic thru facebook.
 
Advertise on BHW
1. Contact them.
2. Contact the website hosting service that hosts the site.
3. Google Webmaster Tools - DMCA Complaint
file a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) complaint against the site that has stolen your content
 
Google should know that the content is yours. So don't sweat it too much. Maybe start weaving site.com references to your own site into your content if they straight up copy/paste so you get free references.
 
That happens to everybody, why are you angry? Was your content not indexed?
 
Doesn't matter because google is aware of the situation and they only credit rankings to the person that first posted the content.
 
Secondly, the guy stealing it only gets FB traffic... so he probably knows he can't rank. Odd situation.

Can he in anyway hijack that traffic by posting his own links to the original content?
 
I would suggest the DMCA route if the webmaster of the site is not responding.. Google relied on rel=canonical for duplicate contents across domains and if the tag is not present it will choose the one with the most strength..


Source: Been in this situation before and DMCA helped.

This is not a good situation to be in, I have quite a few websites each with content I paid for. I built my links etc over a long period, if I found somebody stealing content I will most likely resort to legal action.

As sad as it sounds, the guy with the FB site knows exactly what they're doing. They are probably using the BuzzFeed / Viral Nova method I'd guess.
 
Report them man! Even if you are ranked better! Did the person who stole that write your name or something?
 
Sounds to me like you have attracted the attention of a turd burglar.

In which country is their web hosting located, and what is their domain extension (.com etc)? I'm asking for a reason.
