Hey,

I've recently been checking my site on AhRefs and noticed thousands of new backlinks have come in from blog posts. I have not paid for anything like this as i spend thousands a month of proper SEO. I've never had an issue before and it looks like someone sees me as a competitor and has purchased a load of dodgy backlinks for my site so ill get penalised etc... Is there anything i can do to stop this (i dont think there is but thought id ask anyway) and also is there anything i can do to contact Google and let them know of the issue so they dont penalise the site?

I'm really pissed off as its now been a waste of time, money and effort down the drain :(

Anyone experienced anything like this before?

There's always the disavow tool - but who knows, maybe it'll actually help you in the long run.
 
I would just hope it's a short term attempt. If they're persistent with it then you might be in trouble
 
Yes this is currently happening to an associate of mine.

Hundreds of blogspot domain name spammy blogs building links to his site.
On top of that there are sites stealing his content to make it less unique.

He is disavowing, so far its not helping.

What's your niche op?
 
I want to know what you bought for your "proper SEO" as well. For all you know, the person you paid was the one creating spammy links. Anyway, here are some options for you:

  1. You can contact the webmasters where the links were placed to see if they can removed them.
  2. You can disavow them (don't use this tool frivolously).
  3. Fire your SEO if he or she did it.
 
The best way to get rid of spammy links is to use Google's Disavow link tool.
 
Have you manually checked the blog that your link was in? Maybe somebody liked your site and placed it in their sidebar. Or they could be using your RSS and putting your content in their site.
 
You should mention with which keywords the blog posts were done, if they were done properly, and you have a good keywords density, you can leave it as it is. Otherwise there is an option to disavow all bad links.
 
The long term solution is for you to continue to build good quality links.
You cant stop someone building bad links to your site in an attempt to affect your rankings.
Its not a great strategy becuse we woudl all be laible to this typeof negative SEO
But no one can stop you building top quality links to your site.
And in the long run , that will differentiate you as far as google is concerned
 
Disavow the links and then avenge yourself by further improving your ranks.
