Someone said they would do seo magic on my site for $300 and asked for my password so they could get in my site and do on and off page optimization.

This is wrong right ?

They eventually said they'd show me if i wasn't happy giving access so they didn't need the password, i then said ok can you join the site so we can talk in a message there, they said absolutely no way will we be joining your site !! we can talk here or on the phone its so unprofessional, i said how would you be able to do the work with my pass if you wont even join or go on the site ? "ok my husband will be home in 10 mins, i'll ask him"

This is either wrong or wifey wanted to be bossy for the day idk ha ha !!

Seriously though, its wrong for them to ask for my password and login isn't it ? do people work like this if there's a trust because i wouldn't even give my password to my wife if i had one let alone a stranger.

If you change the password to something unique to that account, and make sure you'll be able to reset it via email, and that the account's email can't be changed by using just the password, then you should be relatively safe.

but they want to get to my templates, this must be wrong asking this ?

How do you expect them to do SEO on your site, if they can't log in?

Obviously they need logins and passwords. Obviously there's a bit of trust that will need to come into play here. This is why a contract usually helps. And a backup of your site, just in case.

I think sharing password to an unknown person is not a good idea. If they really want to you can allow them to work through screen sharing where you can see what they are doing

This almost seems like a troll post. How do you expect someone to optimize your website without access to it and the files?
