Hello whitehat people! I have come to the end of work on my last project that I was using to test out all the things I have learned over the past year. I ended up getting it to page one in google, number 7 for the keyword I wanted. While I am happy with that, I am somehow still PR0 and outranked by the number 1 site which has a quarter the number of the backlinks I have, not an aged domain and is weak on content.

My only guess is that the number one spot has some better DF backlinks with high PR. I am in the process of trying to get links on the same places to see how well that does. However I still feel I am missing some things with my site. I used mostly blackhat methods to get to this place so I wanted some helpful advise on getting more whitehat links and maybe some other WH tactics.

I would also like for people to have a look at the site and tell me what I can improve about it. Things that I have been curious about are;

"why are contact and legal pages important, or are they?"

"What kind of section can I add to this site that will be updated daily? (besides news)"

And of course what I might be missing in general or some element I might have overlooked.

The site is not a "money site" because I came up with the concept long before I understood that aspect of IM, so I'm not concerned with it going big or being a large money earner. It really is just proof of concept to me that I have what it takes to design something good and rank.

anyway the site is: http://www.solar-power-information-site.com/

Have a look please and let me know what I can do to improve the user's experience and any whitehat methods that may be useful to it's unique design. Thank you for ANY input, I really appreciate it!

;)

As far as SEO, I think you need to fine-tune your keywords and description, for one.

Also, I think your site would benefit from better organization. If your intent is to provide information to readers, then provide it in a way they can utilize.

Right now, you have one blog post as your main page and it's basically a huge, unwieldy block of text. Break up your info into more readable chunks and use them into target related keywords.

Then find a better theme and make the info more organized and usable, as well as aesthetically pleasing (some of the text/links are barely readable.)

Thank you! That's exactly the critique I am looking for. I knew that I messed up somewhere with that front page. The formatting I do in word/open office never sticks so I will have to manually do it.

As far as how the categories are laid out I am still hung up as to how to handle that. Maybe I will link to the articles in the main body as well. It's always the little things that mess me up ha ha.

Still looking for the answers to these questions:

"why are contact and legal pages important, or are they?"

"What kind of section can I add to this site that will be updated daily? (besides news)"

And any more opinions and critiques, thanks all!

I think I remember reading somewhere that if you're using adsense, you need to have a privacy policy that lets people know the G is collecting information about your visitors.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong though... :o

BTW, how long did it take you from start to now to get your site to where it is now?

The contact and privacy policy etc. are good for your adwords quality score if you have a single page lander.

Ah thanks for the replies guys, I am trying to wrap up the promotion of this site and move on. As I have said it is mostly a proof of concept so I am anxious to research some real niches! Anyway to answer your question jmcs23 I took about a month of promoting to get this site from oblivion to where it is now. That was done with the help of outsourcing here on BHW though. By myself though I basically used scrapebox to spam comments, did my own manual commenting on solar blogs, writing threads on solar forums, wrote maybe 2 articles and outsourced 4 (submitting them today actually), made some web 2.0 profiles and some forum profiles as well on my own too.

I still feel I am missing something though, I will be manually emailing webmasters for perma links for whithat purposes though too. After that I will consider this history and work on my next project.

Thanks again, and I am still looking for critiques and ideas to keep the site updated! :D
