Some ways to increase my forum activity?

Hey guys, the forum I'm talking about here is discusstheweb.net.
I've opened up since about 2-3 weeks, but the only one posting in the forum is almost me. I wonder how this can be changed? I already tried promoting my forum on other forums, by signature and promotion topics, but it doesn't seem to help me at all. I've also put a competition up, but the result hasn't been that good since it's been up.

Could I please ask you pro's how I could change the situation? Cheers.

You could do Pay Per Post. If they make 50 HQ posts you give them $2 or what not... surely there are some people desperate enough to do it.

Yeah people using bots with spam. This could be done yourself, think outside the box a little.

This is not necessarily true, I know a lot of people that have used this way for a niche forum. If people like the forum they will stay, if they don't at least you have more posts now which will increase natural traffic/activity. Just don't give people a payout if you don't feel that they deserve it (aka scan quickly through their posts).

Also, buy banners on websites relating to your niche.

One thing I noticed on your website is that I can't really identify with it because there is no "goal" or "motive" visible.

Perhaps you should concentrate on the user experience first. Ask yourself questions like "WHY would anybody want to spend time on your site?"

You can use PostLoop. It's a service where you can post on other peoples' forums and earn points, which can be exchanged for posts on your own forum. Or you can just buy points if you don't have time.

They make sure the posts are meaningful posts of high quality, so you don't have to worry about getting stupid one liners like "great post!" "very helpful!" and crap like that.

Spot on. Just took a look and it is hard to identify who you are targeting.

Do you want it to be a gaming, seo or money making forum ?

You are spreading yourself too thin, you should concentrate on one area.

All the best forums are specialist forums, they may have many broad sections now but I am sure when they started out they specialized in one area until their membership grew.

Also the current 3 sections/areas (seo,mm,gaming) have numerous forums already and it is going to be very hard for you to get their members unless you offer them something new.

This is a good idea, try this one. People are into social media sites, so maybe if your promote your forum into it you can attract people to visit your site and don't forget to put some interesting ideas in your forum for them to leave a comment.
