hello everyone,
i am targeting a keyword for site, which has 90,500 exact monthly searches and shows high competition (according to adwords).
i am working on this site since dec 2010
done lots of dir subs.
some article submission.
link building stuff like forum, comments etc.
alexa shows 447 sites linking in but rank is 179,606 :(
webmaster tool show 1000 domain linking to my site.
but still my site ranks 16 in googledotcom, 6 in india, and 50 in pakistan!
traffic is no more 225 visitors per day :o
ad-sense is not more than 1 $ per day :(
these ranks are after 10 months of work!

Anytips for me to get top rank both in India and dotcom? plus how to increase traffic

thanks in advance :D

That is NOT seo competition. Hope you are aware of that.

Just keeping building links consistently and never stop. You can see the maximum potential once it reaches the first page.

Who cares about Alexa anyway! lol

What visitors demo graphic you are targeting actually? If it is US, don't care about your ranking in other countries. Try to do some research and find some long tails in the same niche. Add content regularly to you site based on that. Even if the main keyword takes more time to rank, you can expect ranking for long tail pretty quickly which brings you additional traffic and revenue.

ad-sense is not more than 1 $ per day

There are various factors involved in this like..

Site rank - When you move forward in ranking obviously your revenue will increase

Ad relevance - If the ads are not relevant, you can't expect much clicks so make sure they are relevant.

Ad placement - Play with your site ad placement. Try different placement. Stick to one which gives you more CTR.

Niche - If the niche is something like game, entertainment(just example), you can't expect much revenue for a click..

Hope this helps!

Without knowing the keyword, I can't tell you how the competition is, but in general I suggest you pick up a free copy of Market Samurai and always, always, always, always, ALWAYS do your keyword research. Spend more time researching than building. There are still good niches out there but so much goes into ranking a site but if the competition is too tough on the outset you can save yourself a ton of trouble and just pick a new keyword to go after. Watch the videos on the site, they will tell you how to use the tool.

The Free Market Samurai thread is gone, but you can get a 40 day trial from their website.

Good luck.

thanks for quick response, cyberzilla

1.maybe 90,500 exact global searches is not competition (i didnt knew that btw).but enough for a noob like me :D

2.i havent stopped link building, doing dir subs daily (200-300 approx). will not stop it untill i reach top.

3. i thought alexa matters a lot, a frnd of mine made a site of same niche of mine just few months back and having alexa of 40k. and pr 3 earning approx 10 $ daily! :(

4. i am targeting india and US both.

5. i have optimized my site acc to joel ad sense secrets book.

you need to vary your link building techniques. Try to create web 2.0 pages or create buffer sites and link your money site from these buffer/satellite sites.

If you are willing to invest those $30/month back for SEO, buy several services from fiverr.

The niche for which you are doing this may not have so much earning potential as compared to the time and money you are investing in it right now. Its better to prepare a feasibility report to estimate the earning potential of your niche.

Do some social bookmarks and get some more links from social media sites like facebook, twitter, linkedin etc. These will help you to get more traffic to your site. I found this technique more effective to get traffic to my sites.

Have you researched the top 10 with any tools? Basically you should just try to "tick" all the other boxes like DMOZ, high pr links that the other sites might have and Google values. As you know quantity is not what Google wants anymore. Now it's quantity and diversity.
