Some people just don't get it

I never seen such a fucking mess in the forum until I logged in this evening. 15 Pm's of good members alerting me to threads containing bullshit, newbs trying to conduct business and the infamous "Hey cool thanks lol XOXO".

I really don't care if your Rich Schefren when you join up. Your a fucking newb the minute you join this forum and your a fucking newb the minute you post your first bullshit thread. If however you know how to conduct some proper forum etiquette right off the bat, read the rules and participate accordingly then most likely people are going to respect you off the get-go. That's how it works around here. The minute you join, the guys/gals who participate here everyday are watching you.

So stop dicking off with the stupid shit. The ban hammer is not a temporary thing. I don't temporarily ban anyone. When I ban you, your gone for good, username and IP. I have even banned people who I THOUGHT were rejoining. I won't even take a chance anymore. I always issue you a warning, but after that it's walkin time.

Anyway thanks to all who sent messages alerting me tonight. Otherwise I probably would have missed a ton of it, and am sure I already have.

Ruck, the reason for bullshit posts because of limits I guess. If there were not limits for accessing the information people would be even lazy to type different crap to up the posts count, I mean if they have nothing to say.

What about if other members could ease the burden ofthe mods a little. Instead of a hard limit on posts maybe new members could nominate themselves as worthy of higher privileges and the people (us members) decide by submitting yea or nah votes and any comments. This could work up the line all the way to VIP status with those of the rank (for lack of a better term) and above can cast a vote on the nominees.

Of course the mods have the final say and el presidente (Diamond Dave) can override all.

Or the mods and Dave could just choose a handful of trusted members who then vote. I guess a majority rules and the nominees fate is decided by his peers (just like a jury)

Why not just make people pay $25 or $50 a month for membership here? This site is worth much more than that! I'm a noob, but I am here to learn and grow. I would gladly pay and I'm sure if others are serious then they would too!

I guess it's no different from anywhere else.

You get people who see the value in here and take the time to browse the forum, learn from what's already here and then start asking intelligent questions. These are the people who are going to add value to the forum over the long term.

Then there are the freeloaders who just come here for what they can take away, they don't have anything of value to offer, they probably have a hard drive full of free stuff that they haven't read/used and they won't ever make any money.

We need to nurture the first group and eliminate the second group.

The trick is being able to tell the difference when people first join the forum.

Ive commented on this several times, I think as super mods, you guys should elect regular mods to watch over each paticular forum area here, that way shit really gets cleaned up. Thing that bothers me is that even when I speak up in a thread, (for instance earlier when a total noob asked for software, I told him no but a member gave him/her a link anyway) it does little to change behaviors. Kinda at an impass here, but I will say this: The forum is at a cross roads right now where it can be the holy grail or it could go to shit like the multitude of grimy, criminal, and downright useless forums out there. Im really curious to know how many new members have joined in Nov and Dec. New members arent bad, however ive seen the fruition of that 20/80 theorem. Where 20% of the people will do 80% of the work....

Its so sad and unfortunate, people OVERpm me to much too! Im not even a mod, But I still try to get back at them. This is rediculious and I think curiosity plays a part in this hint look at milligan's post, that may be why.

Unfortunately, when there are limitations some people will post bullshit or useless comments to get their count up. Not much admin can do about it other than warn and then terminate users who abuse the privlege to be here. I admin a couple of forums and it can be frustrating as hell sometimes.

I will say that when I first joined (I am actually so new I probably shouldnt post as much as I do) I saw the "Thanks for that!" posts so much that I thought it might be etiquette, I tried to avoid doing it because to me it looked stupid and like a waste of space but I saw it so much that I thought maybe this is what is expected here when someone goes out of their way to share something. The times I have done it, I was annoyed with myself for jumping on the bandwagon.

I hope that the forum doesnt start charging, there are plenty of people in here who teach much more than they are taught, what would be the purpose to them to have to pay to come in here and answer questions and clue people in. I think the balance would quickly shift to a forum full of people who are so desperate for information they will pay money then complain because their questions aren't being answered.

But I guess I could be wrong. Once again, I probably have not been here long enough to be so free with my words anyway.

Being a noob here, I feel the need to respond to this.

When I signed up only a few days ago, I browsed alot before I actually made my first post. I wanted to get a feel for the forum first - the atmosphere, the people, the information etc. and I quickly knew that I didn't want to be the next jackass who comes in here and makes 25 "Thanks for sharing" posts to get my post up so I can download.

Ruck you are dead on - unfortunately, most people won't get the fact that you'll get a hell of a lot more out of this forum if you participate, provide value, forge some new relationships and gain the respect of your peers rather than scourging to get every freaking available IM ebook known to man in the downloads section by inundating the forum with ridiculous "Thanks, dude" posts. And quite frankly, it is disrespectful as hell to the people who VOLUNTEER their time here to moderate and make this a cool place.

Personally, I really don't even care about getting to the 25 post count as fast as I can because again I know the value of the forum itself, not just the free shit available so it may take me weeks to get there.

So to elaborate on what Ruck said, my advice to other noobs reading this is don't make an ass out of yourself - add value where you can, ask intelligent questions after you've taken the time to research and read on your own (not the "Can you tell me the quickest way to make money?" crap question), and give back to the community.

Don't expect the people here to give you a bunch of free crap and hold your hand so that you can just sit back and rake in the dough. It takes personal responsibility and some balls to learn and then put yourself out there and apply what you've learned and if you are not prepared to do that - then you really don't belong here or anywhere else that deals with making money on your own for that matter and you could download every money making ebook known to man and it wouldn't make a bit of difference to you.

Well, why don't the rest of us can just use the "Report Post" function, right? Wouldn't that alert mods without flooding their inboxes?

Reporting posts floods their emails. I own a few VBulletin based sites and you and every other admin/mod gets an email saying a post has been reported. I do report extremely bad or spammy posts when I have to though since some are just blatant bullshit posts. You are forced to post 25 times to get to the downloads section, in half the posts of people asking questions someone says, "Oh it's in the download section." Answer the restriction causes spam. Not everyone is a poster. I've had PMs on some of my forums from people that have been avid followers of the forum, but they just weren't into posting or had nothing to say in the posts, but they followed just about everything that was going down.

I personally like a reported post to my email. I have a specific email setup here anyway so reporting a post to me is not a problem. If others have problems, they need to setup an email up as well. It's just another way so we don't miss something.

The reality is there is no perfect solution. You are dealing with people and in most cases younger people who just do not and will not take the time to read the rules. Most do not have bad intenetions and will become productive members. Unfortunately, there will always be the few to spoil it for the rest.

Most forums I have been to just flame the crap out of newbies on principle. They then either become gun shy or are to stupid and fight back . I am glad it is not like that here.

I recommend you send warnings and ban. If someone has received a warning and does not take corrective measures then they deserve it.

It seems as though you all are tolerate enough and have been more than fair from what I have seen.

Hey you're not the only one. I thought that it was custom to thank people for what they're offering so it wont seem like you're leeching.

Thanks Ruck. I am sick of the "thanks" posts too. I just changed it so that post counts are no longer required for downloading. Instead it will be based on Reputation of 20 points or higher and also be registered for at least 14 days. You can view your own rep on the right hand side of your posts above the "credits"

Everyone starts off with a rep of 10. Members of the forum have the power to grant rep to other users if they think they deserve it. They can also take away rep as well. If a user posts a great thread or provides good insight into a question. Give them some Rep. If they are spamming the boards take the rep away.

Please note: Many people with hundreds of posts may only have 14 rep points..In the coming days I'm sure your rep will rise as more people start to award rep.

the best way to eliminate those "thanks" post is by include a "thanks" button. I think admin can simply install and activate that function. So, no more "thanks dude!", "you're so great" and all those craps...
