Some help setting up my first expired domain

Hi BHW people

I've setup my fist blog which is an expired domain. This website used to be a PHPBB forum and has about 100 RD including 10 wiki links, 1 link from wired.com and 3 links from an authoritative news website.

What I did

I setup a blog with about 15 'quality' blogposts, an about page, terms & conditions/privacy/contact etc, and a nice logo.

I copied the old forum content from the web archive and converted them to plain HTML. I then redirected (301) the old url's to the HTML pages to prevent 404/dead links. I did this to keep the links from being removed from Wikipedia. I can't use the old url structure because Wordpress doesn't support the PHPBB URL format (as far as I know).

What to do with the old forum pages?

The old pages are not part of the blog. If I decide to change the content, the pages will probably be removed from Wikipedia (I think). So I have my Wordpress installation and a separate folder containing authoritative HTML pages which are all indexed by Google.
Like I said, this is the first time I'm doing this so I assumed this was the right approach.

What is the purpose of this domain

I'm not sure yet, I might use it as a money site or it's going to be part of a PBN. It depends on how the current articles are going to rank in the SERPS.

Questions

Should I keep it like the current setup and add links to the reconstructed pages to potential money articles?

Should I do something that I completely missed and/or haven't considered yet?

What are your experiences in setting up a site which used to be a forum?

Am I a noob? (yes)

You did more than fine. I am not fan of recreating the sites themselves, especially not for PBNs for 2 reasons (I know you do not know the purpose of the site yet). First is, that I always want my PBN domains to be as niche relevant to my money site as possible. Second is copyright issues, but those are rare.

Regarding the redirects, redirect the pages via Htaccess rather than plugin. You haven't mentioned how you did that, so just a tip.

You have not missed anything, your English is fine and if every first thread was like this, then this forum would be on a whole new level (positively).

Also, for the future. Pay attention to how you are registering the domains, whether they are clean and what hosting you use.

Yeah I used a plugin (lazy shortcut, I'm aware) and I will use Htacess instead, thanks for the pro tip.

I registered the domain at Namecheap and used fake whois credentials. Copyright issues are probably not an issue, I stripped all the old branding and wrote an about page where I specifically pointed out the repurposing of the website. I added a link to the 'archived pages' and stated that I preserve them for the sake of history. I hope I'll get away with it, as the site was owned by some famous comic authors.
I did a thorough check on the domain, never changed owner, clean web archive history no foreign anchors etc. If only I knew a way how to check hosting history without having to pay for it.
I actually read many of your comments before I started scraping domains. Thank you for being an outstanding BHW member.

Edit: I'm agree with your first point, recreating the pages is risky. I rather not recreate the old pages but in this case I don't have a choice. I guess it's difficult to repurpose/re-theme old forum pages but I couldn't let this domain pass, especially when you're a newbie trying to create a PBN.

Seems like you did a very good job! Glad to see some people here not only take action but actually using their heads when doing something. If you want to make sure about the domain, feel free to send it over via PM and I will take a look. But considering how much work you've already put it, it might be better not to know. Also, if it haven't changed hosting ever, then it's clean in 90% cases.

Well if I fucked up, I probably learn from my mistakes. Note that not all articles are up yet. I scheduled about 10 of them over the next couple of months. Still working on it, I guess I'm nervous showing my first catch :S.
