Here is an example.

Say I wanted to make 50 twitter acc's for marketing purposes.

I wouldnt get very far making them the normal way on 1 IP, the acc's would hit the spam filter and "poof" suspended.

But, I can connect through a proxy to make the account, make 5 accounts per proxy, that way it would look like the acc's were made on different computers in different locations.

I know its brief but its just an easy explanation

Basically in a nutshell a proxy is something that you use to make it look like you are somebody else.
