Hey everybody,

Let's just say from the start that I'm not the only one using this computer. I'd like to get one specifically for SEO. Does anyone have any advice on what computer to get, or what specs the computer should have?

I couldn't find a thread for this already. Lemme know!! :p

My computer is literally like 8+ years old stock dell and it works fine. Not being able to play video games is actually a good thing.

Advanced/powerful tools you'll have to run on a server/vps anyways so really if you can run word, ff, etc you're good to go.

Windows machine spend 300 or more dollars make sure it can virtualize and have atleast 4gb ddr2 or buy something powerful

If you are using automated tools then I'd recommend at least a quad core.. Tools are like market samurai can take up some resources. When I do IM i am usually running market samurai, itunes, chrome, firefox, Excel, Word, niche finder, skype, hidemyass, photoshop and downloading other other stuff too.

My specs
AMD Phenom II X6 1100T 6 core processor OC @ 3.9 ghz
8 gb ram corsair xms3
ASUS crosshair IV board
Corsair H50 CPU cooler
WD black caviar 7200rpm
ASUS ATI Radeon HD6870 video card
Thermaltake 775w psu
HAF-X full tower ATX cooler master

It's been a great computer, no problems. Even my PC with the AMD X4 910 phenom II processor bogged down a bit with my usage. Especially when I do video editing.

In other words, if you are serious about your IM, GO ALL OUT. Though my pc only cost about $1,000 or less.. If you need help, let me know.. I've got some decent parts you can have.

A basic Windows computer is good enough IMO. Just run the powerful stuff on a VPS like the other guy said.

my home computer is quad core 2.5ghz/3gigs of ram and I run (with no problems)

-SB
-AMR
-BMD
-HMA
-senuke x

No problems, 32mbit downline. You could build a computer like this for under 500 easy.

Thanks boys, I appreciate the input!

Flex, that looks like an awesome machine you built. The only thing that has me concerned is that I'm out of the house a lot, so that machine might be going to waste. Could I build a computer like that (and the one jcash mentioned) and then connect to it remotely via laptop? Would I lose anything?

I'm sorry when it comes to this stuff I'm a little blonde~!! :p

Ah ok, you may just want to save up and get a nice quad core laptop then if you are out of the house often.. Probably more worth it to you..

Thanks a lot I appreciate the note. I think I'll start out with a relatively cheap computer (seems to work for a lot of folks) and upgrade when I've gotten the hang of things.

You don't need much for seo.
But a good processor (if possible with support for virtualization) and some ram may ease the job!

Basic laptop will do.

SEO is not MS Flight Simulator.

Lol @ people showing off their specs for SEO.

I see your point, but I have clearly listed my multi tasking needs and my last HP with phenom II X4 910 couldn't handle well.. So listing my specs was a good benchmark. For people running shitty machines and saying "you don't need a top of the line machine for SEO" you clearly have never had anything remotely powerful. Otherwise, you would realize how much a piece of garbage is really slowing you down.

Well, I have
-2 Xeon processors at 4.5 GHZ, 12 cores total
-SR2 motherboard
-GTX 580 x4
-2 1200 watt PSU's
-Mountain Mods Ascension case
-4x 1TB hard drives in RAID 0
-2x 128GB SSD in RAID 0
-48 GB of ram
-And running 4 virtual machines with proxies
-It is all watercooled on 2 480 radatiors and EK Waterblocks

Only cost about $12,000 :)

You sir WIN the "one up" of the year award!! However, anyone can just list specs all day long. As with most things on this forum, it doesn't mean anything til you show proof.

My computer works great for IM, I dont know why you would need 12 cores at this point, but anyways I would love to see a picture of that computer, sounds badass. You should use those 4x GPU's to create bitcoins haha.

I'd say you paid too much for that nice setup.

There is no SEO spec for a system, but imo the best option is to setup a dedicated server that you can virtualize instances of tools for your main usage and testing. Find a system that supports at least 16gb of memory and run vmware workstation. The more cpu cores the better, especially if you can get a 2 cpu based quad core. I have a dell 2900 server w/dual quad cores w/24gb and can easily run 10 instances of windows. Even more if I ran ESX server. Just the fact I can test in a sandbox new stuff is handy. I'll take a master copy of a clean OS install, duplicate it a few minutes and I'm ready to install the app. Winvnc into any of the instances and I'm good to go.

Why would you get 4 GTX 580s...?

Makes no sense to me
