Socks5 proxy Vs VPN

Hello guys! I am hustling on a venture currently, where I'd need to hide my IP. It's about a windows app (game). Last 2 days I read a lot about both proxies and VPN servers and how they work, but I still can't find an answer for my question.

Which one do you guys think will be more secure in order to hide my real IP, DNS?

I know that VPN has encryption when the proxy don't, but this encryption isn't about hiding myself, but hiding my data (If I understood correctly). I actually don't care about the data. I just read somewhere that proxies can leak my DNS and they can see me through it, idk if that's correct.

I wanted to compare them about which one will be better for my purpose. Not comparing them at all, sorry If it looked like that.
Wanted to know which will be the more safe path to take if I'd like to hide my IP while I am running the process (this game) whether it will be proxy socks5 or a VPN

Ahh I see, well, vpn if you set it to always on should have you covered.

As always I reccomend nordvpn.
