I've went on quite a few corperate training things over the last year, and I can confirm that social media is future.
Not using the sites or anything like that, but training idiots how to use it. No word of lie, on pretty much EVERY course there were managers who not only didn't understand the social media thing, they actively feared it. But the fear was mingled with base desire, they coveted its influance, but didn't want to go near it...
To make money off social media, all you need to do is buy a business suit, wear the shirt and jacket with a pair of jeans qand grow a goatie beard. Then you provide training (and it doesnt even have to be good, because these people have no idea, they just know they want it) and make a mint.
(OK Im not overly sure about the whole making a mint thing, but at least 3 of the poeple who were BIG names in the social media world apparantly (headliners at the business Re:Fresh expo anyway) knew less than I did. One of them spent 30 minutes talking about the difference between strategy and tactics before even covering online media...
(I made it through half the day, ran out the door to a comic shop and returned for the last speaker and the free drink at the end (and then ended up speaking to a nice essex girl who I really should have hung around with but for some reason decided I might be able to make it to the comic shop for 10 minutes if I just turned and ran lol)
