I want to promote my site with some social media. But Ive never did SMM before.

For Facebook, do you just pretty much comment on relative groups, with your site? How would you go about finding groups that are relative to your site? What about fans to your page? Also, how do I go about searching groups? I cant seem to find the function.

For Twitter, I assume retweets are working best from what I read. What other ways can you advertise on twitter?

its actually all of it.
you are basiclly usung word of mouth (but called sm)
bookmark sites, fb, twitter, linkedin, YT, Big +1 look for groups-people, or simular terms.

best thing to do is, understand the whole big picture of social media marketing.
learn, listen, take the good get rid of the bad.

There are various social sites are available first of all search all the sites and learn to use them , then you can easily promote your site their.

ya you can check out hubspot they have some newbie friendly free resources for smm etc + there's some good stuff here in BHW

In my opinion Social Media Marketing it woths the effort because it can be done with a very small investment and can bring a lot of benefits.

In promoting something using social media you should have a good portal. Facebook fan page as well as twitter account are good place to do it. Create a fan page and invite your friends to like it. In Twitter follow accounts that has something to do about your interest. Be aggressive in promoting your website.

Today SMO(social media optimization) is becoming very effective way of getting traffic and visitors to your site through social networking sites like facebook , twitter, google+ etc. I am using facebook and twitter both.
