Seems like more and more people are switching to social media for traffic lately me included. Pinterest,Tumblr,Facebook,Twitter ect. They all seem to be the way to go nowadays.Mostly with the younger crowd (some older too).Sure ranking in Google will probably be a great source for traffic but in my opinion social media is the way to go.

I don't think there is one way, you need to see where you can fit and where you can bring your advantages.
Social media is great and works in many niches, but if you have the ability and you can turn profit with SEO you should do that as well.

Social media get traffic, but not only social media work it out. Social media with SEO will give better traffic your site. At least you have some content posting to share with social media sites.

I use social media for niches that are almost impossible to rank because of the competition.

With social media you don't need seo because main purpose is getting traffic from social sites, with seo you don't need social media because you rank in search engines

They both have pros and cons. I'd immagine it would be pretty hard to build social presence around amazon products on social media and convert people into buyers (hard but not impossible).

At the same time, it would be pretty hard to rank for "funny pictures" on Google.

Witch is better depends of the niche you are in.

converting females on on Pinterest is pretty damn easy, girls love to shop and they will buy almost anything that they think is "cute".

Social media help you a lot ranking in search engines also it brings you a lot of targeted traffic if you do it well.
+1 for social media

i've never touched SEO, i was always a social media kind of guy
with social media you can have not just practically but literally instant results, with SEO most of time it's not the case

SEO was never my cup of tea and is a bit boring, on the other hand social media is always fun, except when out of the blue a few hundred {insert a social network here} accs get banned and you need to figure out what the hell went wrong, but even this process can be fun :)

but yea, do both
you cannot really separate the two anyway, it's a well known fact for some time now that social media can have a huge impact on the ranking of your site and basically that's the only thing i know about SEO lol

Very close. SEO and social media complement one another perfectly.

Your monetization strategy and product|service will dictate which is best for your operation at every stage of development.

I don't think I've ever done SEO for someone who was not doing social media, and if they weren't, I either took it on or suggested they get started immediately.

Don't put all your monkeys in one papal. Wait.

I Think I need to learn more about SEO before I say social media traffic is better. I should put together a thread with 2 different sites for the same niche and do SEO on one and social media on the other and post results. :lmao:

That would be an interesting experiment.

OP, you literally have the same mindset as me. I can't stand SEO, I just don't have the patience for it and it literally takes forever. I would much rather handle my social media accounts to drive traffic

Both are effective.
Social media much more effective for new products and demand creation.
SEO works better in other stages of
purchase funnel

I've been saying this for a long time. When you're in one of the niches from hell, you have to find other ways to spread the word about what you have.

You have to do both though. Even though you have to find other ways to get the word out there when you're in a flooded niche, it doesn't mean that you give up on the one that's hard to accomplish.

How are you getting huge traffic with social media?

if you do not mind me asking what type of bots do you use to manage your accounts? I do everything manually and have 5 accounts for each social media site.
