Recently I was checking out Google searches for competitive terms. I was surprised not to find high rankings for marketers using YouTube, Squidoo, Hub Pages, and other social media staples. Previously these type of pages ranked high but it doesn't seem like that's the case now.

Is anyone else seeing this, and if so, what does it say about the SEO ranking power of social media sites? I suppose it could be that there are a new group of social media sistes who've replaced the "old guard," but it didn't seem like that was the case.

What do you think?

Basically, marketers are using the social media sites for backlinks, so it'd probably be better if the social media sites themselves do not rank well for the keywords.
