Social Bookmarking is an excellent way to get better rankings especially if competition is less. It has never provided me a good amount of traffic, just helps in better rankings.

Social bookmarking is a good way to get a decent amount of traffic which leads to getting recognition by Google and then attaining PR. Its a part of SEO tactics but not a guarantee to get a high PR ....
There are certainly other ways to acquire rank along with social bookmarking like back linking, email marketing advertising, fan page and advertising.Make your moves wisely and shuffles these tactics to get a good rank.

I think it is a good way to diversify your links, and it can be a good idea to do it when you have first created a site. I have definitely seen some pretty good SERP movement from using it, but not always. I could care less about having people come to my site, that isn't the reason I do it, it's just for the links.

Social bookmarking is an effective method to get a decent amount of traffic and quite popular these days. You can certainly choose your target market and spread the word among them. Creating a fan page would also be a good idea to direct visitors on your website.
