Social Bookmarking??

I am always hearing about social bookmarks and bookmarking services?
What are the benefits of these? Is it something that is done constantly for the same site? (I mean would you order 100+ bookmarks for the same site every month?)

Also, wouldnt you want to keep bookmarking your site from different accounts/IPs so that it increases the "popularity" of the site?

Finally, what are the best strategies to use bookmarks with? I mean, do you just use them when the site is new to get it indexed, or when new content is created? Or do you bookmark your articles (with backlinks) so that they get indexed quicker?

Please shed some light on this for me!

Depending on the niche you are in, they can serve as both a source of traffic and a source of back links.

If you are in a micro niche, there is a good chance that you will not get much traffic but you will get some decent back links. You can also try to get a little creative and try to get some back links for these social book mark pages to make them a little stronger.

Let's say you bookmark your lose weight website. Don't just leave your bookmarked pages as it is. Try to send some links to it with anchor text that you would also use for your money site.

About IP's. Every bookmarking site is usually on a different IP to begin with. I doubt if Google tracks the IP with which you submit the bookmarks from although it is not entirely impossible.

For maximum traffic, try to use good tags so your bookmark is well connected with the other related links in the site. Some sites will have most searched tags or something like that which you can use to get more traffic.
