So Who's Getting An Apple Tablet Tomorrow?

I'm not.

Seems like it's gunna be a glorified iPod touch with multitasking capabilities. I think it will be a nice addition to the Apple lineup, and diversify the iTunes store with newspaper subscriptions (like the Kindle)... but let's be serious for a second. People who need to do real work will stick with TabletPC's. I've owned several, and they are nice to work with. If the Apple tablet runs iPhone OS, you're not going to see serious media development applications for a long time.

Rumors remain rumors until Mr Jobs tells us later today.

If the new product carves out a new market in the same way that the iPhone did, then it might well be a winner. Depends if Apple locks it down in the same way. For my money if it was a fairly open system able to run more than just apps, then I might well go for it.

I reckon about $600

i will get it for $300 tax included and free shipping. Thanks

the funny thing is that apple never said what it does.

Why would anyone buy a book reader that costs 1k? I guess maybe if it does other stuff too, but that seems a bit steep. Think about mobile devices, you bring them with you, drop them, they wear out etc. Eventually all of them break. This is not like a laptop where you can buy performance, my guess is its one size fits all.

If it only runs the iPhone OS, it's a waste of money. Only real reason to have one would be to show off around the office/friends/cafe. Basically just a glorified iTouch, as previously mentioned.

If it runs OSX, count me in. But that shit better have the processing power to run the entire CS4 Master Collection at the same time. Just like my 13"/15"/17" MBP's do. Otherwise, I have no use for a "pic of the day" app. And turning my iTablet sideways to make it look like I'm drinking a beer is less than appealing.

EDIT: wireless charging via optional base station, protective glossy coating, comparative sizing, pricing, facial recognition software, gaming wifi

EDIT: So, obviously, all of that was wrong. $699 model looks to be the one for me. Jack my BB into the iPad, nix additional 3G service charge.

You know, I hate using my laptop on the couch / Away from my desk.
I really need a tablet.

I think these tablets will replace some of the laptops bought.

I declare an interest. I'm an Apple fan .... I was so looking forward to this iPad.

What it does do is great. But at the end of the day it is simply an extended iTouch.

Biggest dropped clangers?? NO BLOODY CAMERA !!. No USB Port - No running of existing OSX apps. OK so its not a laptop or a netbook. Fair enough. But it doesnt even make phone calls!! - The Cellphone bit is Data Only.

What a bunch of missed opportunities.

It doesn't support flash.

It's useless. lol

ha! i just saw this...

"iPad domain names are being snatched up in droves."

Big iTouch. Without multitaskig it's just iTouch + ebook reader.

I plan on getting one, its the perfect organizer for me, Ive always thought if only my iphone were bigger it would be perfect for me for an organizer.

Price range is $499-$829. 16,32,64 meg. Wifi only or Wifi/3g
Personally I'll get the 64 meg 3G.

Granted its not for everyone, but its pretty much exactly what I want, and I'm guessing Im not alone, but its definitely not as a broad niche as the Iphone/Ipod.

I'm a bit disappointed, to be honest. It's nothing revolutionary or at least as exciting as iPhone was...for reading it's not as good as Kindle - LED display it's going to be pain for my eyes...and that battery life? Processing power is a joke and... iPhone OS? Come on...

Nice but no thanks, I actually just got a Archos 5 Android Internet Tablet for around $250 open box and I'm looking it after I was able to install G's Market on it.
