I bet most people on here use wordpress for 99% of their sites, but I'm wondering who here goes against the curve, and what do they use?

There are lots of other options, including Joomla and Drupal, but Wordpress is least complex and most user friendly. There are thousands of CMS out there and of course there are static sites as well.

I myself mainly use wordpress for all of my sites.

What do YOU use?

It really all depends.

For my personal sites I have a good mix that i break thing out in so i can try new things as far as seo on the different set up to see how the site reacts in the search engines.

As far as customers if its a small business or a mom and pop we will do the site in wordpress so they can do updates themselves.

If is a larger company we do them in PHP

Then you have a few that want a joomla or drupal site.

For me there are things that i like about wordpress and then things i like doing with just php

when it comes to ranking you can rank both type sites just the same.
 
I'm usually using wordpress for my blogs, but for a complex web with tons of feature, I prefer Joomla, it has so many extensions and more flexible. Anyway, most of my site (for client) is Joomla, but some of my blogs using wordpress
 
99% of people doesn't use wordpress.
I'm in the 1% and I use it for about 15% of my sites...
 
Joomla overhere. Not because I think it is the best, but because I know it the best.
 
wordpress heavy, but for most of my salespages/squeezes I use html more often.
 
I would say the reason why I use Wordpress is Because of all the SEO Features that you have with Great Plug-in's also there is so much options, to make the site look like a Website or CMS and not a Blog as such. Much easier than Joomla, I know Joomla very well, but I find that I have to do allot of Manual Customization much more that what I have to do with Wordpress. And there is much better tracking and easier to get listed in Search Engines. So if you are thinking of changing from WP to Something else, I would tell you to reconsider.
 
I'm old school, i do almost all my own sites in HTML/PHP. I like the level of control it gives me and flexibility.

But I can code sites in wordpress, like it's being said above, it's great for clients who need to update their site often but aren't able to edit HTLM themselves.
 
I never use Wordpress but rather use another scalable solution.

My process is something like this:
Start with minor investment to get site to rank well.
Test traffic.
Depending on the test I may wish to rapidly deploy services and application behaviour that I simply cannot do quickly in wordpress. Others maybe able to of course.
 
Don't like WP but that's because I'm a control freak! I like to code everything myself although this is far more time-consuming.
 
Not a big fan of Wordpress or Joomla I prefer to use templates for my sites and customize those. I know that they probably wont look as nice as Wordpress and Joomla sites but call me old fashioned I prefer it this way..
 
I used a different CMS and Wordpress is really handy if you need to make an easy site without waiting for a powerful load, otherwise you are waiting for the wild retards.
 
I use Wordpress for Heavy sites in which the client needs to do the customization on his own, otherwise simple HTML/CSS is ok.
 
HTML pretty much does it for me although I have used wordpress and Joomla which are both not bad. Joomla is better though

There are good things and bad things about wordpress and it seems that your mileage may very alot depending on the plugins you use. Personally I am weaning off wordpress for my own tool that is specifically design to be good for seo. If you don't have the ablility or time to make your own tool, wordpress is probably the way to go. Just look into the seo plugins available to; cut down on dupe content, put your keywords in the urls, auto ping your posts, sitemaps, ect..
