What's still working out there for you all?

    Blog comments?
    Forum profiles?
    Social media links?
    Blog networks?

In my experience, as always, a healthy mix of link diversity and link velocity works best. I don't rely on just one source or one target for backlinks, and I keep building links at a steady rate to try to make things organic. A single source can leave footprints and look un-natural; the same can be said for a single target.

So I guess I wouldn't pick any one method or source, but rather state that a solid balance of as many possible sources and targets carried out at a steady rate is the best route.

If you can consistently "fake looking natural," that will always work. But think about how that sounds. Could it be that strategy itself is unworkable long term? Or are we straining to obey the rules and pleasing the SEO gods, and are thereby always going to be behind the eight ball, by the self-contradictory structure of our own plan?

I say concentrate on the traffic approaches that don't empower Google, from Web 2.0 to social media to bots, to getting no-follow links from sites that humans will follow, and so forth. Find non-SEO based ways to get good, sustained mass traffic. That's what works, and will keep working.

Nothing from what i can see right now. Well I moved from 100 to 90 this morning after having submitted a bunch of w2s for a sub 10k search comp kw :(.

This is so fuckign depressing seo seems pretty unviable to me now, I think I am gonna try a more steady type of profession maybe making bots and selling gigs on fiver. Bots, if frustrating at times, are beautifully reliable and not subject to whimsical change. I really despise change and love strict routines (my mtoher says i show signs of aspergers :p) so I guess seo isnt the best idea for me.

All types of links. You can't rank a website like 2 years ago with xrumer and comments. You have to add a lot of backlinks and diversity their type (web 2.0, comments, profile, wiki links, article directories, social bookmarking, press release, anywhere you can get a link it's good.)

They are still effective. You just need a strategy to make it more effective.
