Probably most of us here have thought about it, but have anyone actually tried it?

How are you planning to get the duplicate content onto their site?

Or were you thinking of copying it and posting the exact same on new sites you created?

Duplicate content if it is not a legend, is applying to the one who copies not the one who has been copied.

What do you mean by competition? You want to compete in if the search engine thinks you actually own the duplicate content?

I think he is talking about spamming web2.0 with spam link to competitor's site? I may be wrong though so OP can you please be more specific?

This. Taking competitions content, maybe spinning it a bit but not enough and then spamming.

So basically you want to rank your competitors ? I can give you my website if you want, and please penalize me ! :D

Or he is thinking to post duplicate content in the comments or user generated section.

Another thing you can do is if they have search installed on their site. Start building low quality links to their search pages containing things like "viagra", "weight loss" etc. Use senuke, xrumer etc for creating thousands of links.

Never tried .. so no guarantee. If they are smart they must have put NoFollow, NoIndex in meta tags for their SERP pages.

No, I would not put any links anywhere. Just post same content from your site to many, many different places. But not sure if search engines have really a way to tell which content is original if its found from multiple places.
