Hashtags will relatively only bring you very little traffic, that is why they can be good if you have 1000 followers! They will bring in the botters that are liking and commenting by hashtags. If you have 2k+ likes, hashtags are relatively useless, at that point you shouldn't really care about an extra 50 likes or not. In your case, of course if I start a new account, I dont have any followers and as such I have to rely on the botters to like on my hashtags, and I might get 50 likes, as if I don't use hashtags and dont have any followers, of course I'll get 0!

Me @VapeMonkey @Jaymien are talking about hashtags in a little bigger perspective. I can have 4 digit figures differences in likes from day to day, if you look at bigger accounts you can see they can easily have 10ks of differences in likes and they are sometimes using some random hashtags. I can nail the top of any hashtag in my niche, it does not bring me in more likes. Why do I use hashtags then? Just as small tool to see how well my posts do, the better they do, the longer they can stay at the top of the bigger hashtags.

tags are some what useful (hurts saying that) heard about the whole situation so went for a test, used all this big tags I could 100m+ got on top of all and no difference at all I use small tags like 5m+ get top and notice a difference of x,xxx amount of likes I got for my posts.

Are you targeting the hashtags or are you just trying to get to the top of them? If you are trying to get to the top of whatever hashtag you are referring to, then you did it. You got to the top of it. You succeeded.

I'm not looking to get to the top of a hashtag, or on the Explore page. I'm looking to make money. I use hashtags that will target a specific person so I can sell them something. Followers for follower sake, or likes for like sake is a different game. I'm not in that game. But if you want to sell a product on Instagram, you can draw the customers in with hashtags that mention exactly what you sell.

I'm experimenting on my account today and will not be using any hashtag for 1 week. Let see what happens :). The account is on 23k followers and got 700-800likes per pic with hashtags.

I just do IG for the fun, but are earning a good amount of money on a few accounts. Especially one of my accounts I have some good contracts with local businesses to draw customers to them.

At 700-800 likes per pic, the hashtags can still be worth it, since you most likely care if you get 700 or 800, but lets see. My daily likes varies greatly, so I can't tell the differences of 100 likes, when I don't use hashtags I some times get average, some times more, some times less than average.

It is worth to mention that we recently had the hashtag bug, where hashtags were stucked for some 48 hours+, I made a thread, and the bug proved the whole theory that hashtag only brings in botters! All of us that were stuck on the top of hashtags got nothing, while the newest photo on the hashtag, even if it was a blurry totally bad photo got loads of likes and comments (but no followers gained for the accounts), proving that the newest photo was just picked up by bots that don't look at the quality of the photo.

The question is not to use or not to use, that answer is pretty obvious.

The question is "Do hashtags make your account go boooom".

My posts get 4k to 20k likes, with or without tags. The tags are just a tool for me as an indicator for how well the posts really goes.

To answer your question, I would recommend trying to actually be active on the account. Post interesting comments on BIG related accounts, make people reading the comments curious, that way they might drop by, and if you're lucky they will drop a few likes and even follow, the people following that account will see that they liked your pic and might drop by, and so on....

Btw I have been experimenting with my main account at 21k followers the past few weeks (After a drop of daily gained followers). I will make sure to try not using any hashtags (I always get on the top # at 1-2m) to see if i can see any difference. I actually didn't use hashtags on this accounts way back, and my like % compared to followers has dropped after using hashtags, but that might as well be natural since the account has grown quite a bit.

Another question, do you think hashtags has any influence (good or bad) on getting featured on the explorer page?

tags are different than explore so no.
explore is different for everyone.

This is an interesting question. Only guys that are often on the explore page would be able to conduct a solid conclusion on this.

Hashtags can still influence if/how you are featured on the explore page. Just like if I visit an account, that account have significant chance of ending up in my explore feed, even that I don't follow the account or like any photos.

At this point, I get on explore every other post and with/without tags I have seen that I still get same pattern. Here's what happened so today, I didn't get on explore but yesterday I did, so tomorrow I will get on explore for me I have hit top tags on every tag I use 100m+ and don't see a difference like I did today hit a 100m+ tag and my vid still did awful.

So basically all of you "instgram masters" have no conclusive reasoning why you have grown so large. This tread is so misleading because of all the opposing beliefs like hastags good vs hastags equals bots, followliker vs manual, shoutout vs organic, explore page is great vs little to no results.
I don't know how to get 1mil real followers and I don't want to belive in luck, maybe its honing your craft. Maybe the best way to the top is just hustle and focus on the target audience with great content, consistent daily uploads and interaction with the community like instagram intended. look at the top Instagram accounts in your niche and compare the pages. Hell, might as well try begging for their advice.

Nobody ever claimed that it's pure luck, it's not like we don't know how it happened, and at this moment there are already multiple threads on this section that are about this.

It's inconceivable that you have the answers right in front of your eyes, yet you don't see them.

As much as I'd love to, I can't just give you the plain and simple spoon-feed solution since a lot of people would be enraged. Furthermore, if you can't do 2+2 with all the information and suggestions that many guys already gave ( and this is just to be straightforward ), I believe you don't deserve to know it.

Personally I think Instagram did some major update for the Explore page like 6 weeks ago. Ever since then my engagement droped by 50 percent. Lots of other accounts in my geographic region with about the same amoutn of followers dropped as well.

What's even more strange: my explore page used to be quite entertaining and I actually did check it out. Ever since the update I am litteraly just getting crap. Some arab babes and stupid memes (something I never posted, never followed and never clicked on), stupid indish guy selfies. Most of the pictures there are days old as well.

I think they toyed around a bit with geolocation, they increased the limits etc...Accounts over a certain treshold probably won't notice a difference (or maybe quite to the contrary). Might also be that instagram can't categorize my posts anymore and thus won't roll it out in explore pages any longer.
Another reason might probably be the recent engagement-group thing, making it even harder for smaller accounts to reach the explore page etc.
 
Then the question is How to end in the explore section ???? Any help
 
I have a question.
I am growing and account. I am posting pictures of big IG people, and say that this image is done by... this is like a free shout out i do.
How do you think, should this work? and how many people may I loose following me, when I put a big name below the photo?
