I posted on here a few weeks back complaining about below standard level because of unpaid items i cancelled . I chose the "im out of stock option " and that's how it happened . It resulted in defects . Thankfully , the wonderful ebay emplyes removed all those and now I am above standard and soon to be top rated . I just had an unpaid item and the buyer said to cancel it . How do I do it ? Do I just click cancel and select "The buyer asked me to cancel the order " ? or what ? Because in the ebay TOS about seller performence it says this :

The transaction defect rate is the percentage of your transactions that have one or more of the following defects:

  • Detailed seller rating of 1, 2 or 3 for item as described

  • Detailed seller rating of 1 for shipping time

  • Negative or neutral feedback

  • A return initiated for a reason that indicates the item was not as described

  • An eBay Money Back Guarantee request or PayPal Purchase Protection case opened for an item not received or an item not as described

  • Seller-initiated transaction cancellation

In this case even if choose the buyer asked me to cancel the order I would still be the one who initiated it, id be the one to request cancellation first . So what do I do?

ive had this exact same question but never bothered to actually look into it.

Normally if the buyer requests a cancelation, I tell them they need to do it on their end (as I knew it can be initiated by the buyer becuase I've had to do it for my own purchases from time to time)

For an absolute answer I would suggest call ebay and ask, shouldn't take long as it's a simple question. I would expect that such a situation results in no deficits on the sellers end, but I wouldn't at all be shocked if that's not the case.

If I remember correctly , back when I called ebay, I actually aksed them something like this and I think they said , choosing "the seller asked me to cancel the order " does NOT results in a defect , I just wanna be 100% sure.

Alright , it is confirmed , clicking seller requested to cancel the order DOES NOT result in a defect :)
