Apart from the lie detector debate, it would be very self-centered to think that we (= all the creatures on earth) are the only living beings in this universe.

Aliens are real. They were seen in Star Wars and in Independence Day.

Well, it's theorically and mathematically impossible for us to be alone in the whole universe considering how many galaxies & planets there are
 
I believe in Aliens and Extraterrestrials. Sufficient proof of their existence can be found in many a Lounge Thread.
 
If you believe in something even if its a lie you will pass a lie detector test.

Silly to make Buzz Alrdin take a lie detector like he's just some random. I don't understand why anyone would get this emotionally invested in whether or not there are aliens. It's not like he's saying he saw an alien anyway. All he said is that he didn't know what was flying beside them and he gave non alien theories as to what it could have been.

No matter our beliefs, one thing we can't argue about is that there are only 2 options to consider. We're either truly alone in this vast universe or we're not.
If there's something to be "scared" of then it's definitely the first option.
 
The first one is better than having a more advanced civilization invade and conquer us.

a) That's a different argument than saying "it's wrong because it's self-centered".

b) So, w.r.t. your argument, no it's neither theoretically nor mathematically impossible at all. Someone came up with an arbitrary equation with arbitrary variables and weights which sounds neat for the people and of course there can be no proof of it for the simple reason that the variables that amount to "intelligent life" are (to put it politely) unknown.

If you've learned division while at school, you may have noticed that if you divide a huuuuuge number with a huuuuuuuge number, the result is tiny. You can count the number of galaxies, but you can't even count the things that need to be "just right" for intelligent life to appear. And that's the divisor.
 
If you are a scientific guy you can't deny the existence, at the same time you can't confirm it unless you got something which proves it exists.
BTW I found Ancient Aliens program quite interesting.

I also have few doubts when it comes to huge scientific advancements done by us.
 
2 bhang ka gola and you will start seeing alien in real life.
